Mission Statement

Mount Carmel Hospital aims to promote mental health within the Maltese society by:

• Assisting persons with mental health problems who require specialist treatment and care as well as support for their social network.

• Providing, through specialist multi-disciplinary teams, a comprehensive and integrated range of community and hospital mental health service.

Mount Carmel Hospital is responsible for the coordination of all mental health professional services offered in Malta and Gozo . The services are offered by eight consultant led firms, as follows:

• Dr Joseph R Saliba (Clinical Director): general psychiatry and child & adolescent psychiatry 

• Dr David Cassar (Consultant): general psychiatry, community psychiatry & rehabilitation psychiatry

• Dr Joe Cassar (Consultant): general psychiatry, child & adolescent psychiatry & dual diagnosis substance misuse psychiatry

• Dr Ethel Felice (Consultant): general psychiatry, learning disability psychiatry, dual diagnosis substance misuse, perinatal psychiatry & Gozo

• Dr Anton Grech (Consultant): general psychiatry, dual diagnosis substance misuse psychiatry, neuropsychiatry & Gozo

• Dr John Mifsud (Consultant): general psychiatry; old age psychiatry, eating disorders and sexual disorders

• Dr Joseph Spiteri (Consultant): general psychiatry, old age psychiatry and forensic psychiatry
  Dr Joseph Vella Baldacchino (Consultant): general psychiatry, rehabilitation psychiatry & community psychiatry

These following services are offered in Mount Carmel Hospital:

• Inpatient care

• Acute

• Rehabilitation & long stay 

• Old age & Medical

• Children and adolescents

• Learning disability

• Forensic/prison ward

• Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)

• Consultation-liaison service to other government hospitals and establishments

• Out-patient and in-patient (Short Stay Psychiatric Unit) services to St. Luke's Hospital including ECT

• Paraclinical services comprising clinical psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, social work and physiotherapy.
