20.08.2004 News Item: The Disease Surveillance Unit (DSU) launches a new web site.
In this website you can find information about the commoner infectious diseases (the A to Z of Infectious Diseases). This part of the site will be updated regularly with the latest information. It explains the signs, symptoms, modes of transmission, treatment and prevention of these diseases. The DSU is the only centre in Malta dealing with surveillance of infectious diseases. Data is collected from various sources, including medical doctors, laboratories and through the surveillance systems in order to provide more information on prevailing issues in infectious diseases. The unit is also responsible for managing outbreaks of infectious diseases as well as to provide data on infectious diseases to the local and international scientific community.
To learn more, click on the internet address www.health.gov.mt/dsu, where you can read about the objectives, surveillance, international collaboration, management of outbreaks and data processing of the DSU. The reports, statistics and publications pages give an idea about the local situation regarding infectious diseases.
