Food Supplements Regulations 2003

The Foodstuffs, Chemicals & Cosmetics Directorate of the Malta Standards
Authority, on behalf of the Food Safety Commission is the notifying
authority for Food Supplements.
The following procedure for notification is to be adopted:
The importer is to forward a copy of the label of the food supplement to
Foodstuffs, Chemicals & Cosmetics Directorate
before importing the product into Malta for the first time or at the
moment of importation. The label submitted should be that as will appear
on the food supplement when exposed for sale to the ultimate consumer.
Notification may be effected by mail, email or fax, provided that the
label supplied is legible. Bottles, containers, boxes, etc. are not
acceptable for notification.
Importers are encouraged to use electronic means of notification as much
as possible.

Dietary Foods for Special Medical Purposes Regulations 2001

The Foodstuffs, Chemicals & Cosmetics Directorate of the Malta
Standards Authority is the notifying authority for
Dietary Foods for Special Medical Purposes.
The
following procedure for notification is to be adopted:
The
importer or manufacturer is to forward a copy of the label of the
Dietary Foods for Special Medical Purposes to the Foodstuffs,
Chemicals & Cosmetics Directorate before
placing the product on the Maltese market. The label submitted should be that as will appear on the food
when exposed for sale to the ultimate consumer. Notification
may be effected by mail, email or fax, provided that the label supplied is
legible. Bottles, containers, boxes, etc. are not acceptable for
notification.

The Foodstuffs, Chemicals & Cosmetics Directorate of the Malta
Standards Authority is the notifying authority for
Foodstuffs intended for Particular Nutritional Uses.
When placing the product for the first time on the Maltese marker the
importer or manufacturer is to forward a copy of the label to the
Foodstuffs, Chemicals & Cosmetics Directorate of the Malta Standards
Authority of the
foodstuffs intended for a particular nutritional use which do not
belong to one of the groups listed in the Fourth Schedule of L.N.
483 of 2004.

The label submitted should be that as will appear on the food when
exposed for sale to the ultimate consumer. Notification may be
effected by mail, email or fax, provided that the label supplied is
legible. Bottles, containers, boxes, etc. are not acceptable for
notification.
Importers or manufacturers are encouraged to use electronic means of
notification as much as possible.

Subject:
Foodstuffs intended for Particular Nutritional Uses |
Nutrition and
Health Claims Regulations, 2008
(L.N. 84 of 2008)
The Directorate responsible for foodstuffs within the
Malta Standards Authority is the designated Competent Authority
responsible for
Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 (MT).
When a food bearing a nutrition claim listed
in the Annex of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006, or a health claim
is placed on the market for the first time, the manufacturer or importer
shall notify the Competent Authority by forwarding a model of the label
used for the product.
The notification of food bearing health claims
that has been placed on the market prior to the entry into force of
these regulations, shall take place by not later than 30th June 2008.
Foodstuffs which have not been notified by that date
shall be removed from the market at the expense of the manufacturer or
importer.
The notification of food bearing nutrition claims
that has been placed on the market prior to the entry into force of
these regulations, shall take place by not later than:
-
30th June, 2008 for food
bearing nutrition claims referring to fat;
-
31st December, 2008 for food
bearing nutrition claims referring to energy;
-
30th June, 2009 for food
bearing nutrition claims other than those referred to in
paragraphs (i) and (ii).
Foodstuffs which have not been notified by the dates
prescribed in paragraphs (i), (ii) and (iii) shall be removed from the
market at the expense of the manufacturer or importer.

Subject:
Nutrition and Health Claims |
The Addition of
Vitamins and Minerals and of certain other
Substances to Foods Regulations, 2008
(L.N.
86 of 2008)
The Directorate responsible for foodstuffs within the
Malta Standards Authority is the designated Competent Authority
responsible for
Regulation (EC) No 1925/2006 (MT).
When a food to which vitamins and minerals have been
added, and a food containing substances listed in Annex III, Parts B and
C, of Regulation (EC) No 1925/2006, is placed on the market for the
first time, the manufacturer or importer shall notify the Competent
Authority by forwarding a model of the label used for the product.
Foods placed on the market prior to the entry into
force of these regulations shall notify the competent authority by not
later than 31st December 2008. Foodstuffs which have not been
notified by that date shall be removed from the market at the expense of
the manufacturer or importer.
